SEmantic portAL: The SEAL Approach
نویسندگان
چکیده
The core idea of the Semantic Web is to make information accessible to human and software agents on a semantic basis. Hence, web sites may feed directly from the Semantic Web exploiting the underlying structures for human and machine access. We have developed a generic approach for developing semantic portals, viz. SEAL (SEmantic portAL), that exploits semantics for providing and accessing information at a portal as well as constructing and maintaining the portal. In this paper, we discuss the role that semantic structures make for establishing communication between different agents in general. We elaborate on a number of intelligent means that make semantic web sites accessible from the outside, viz. semantics-based browsing, semantic querying and querying with semantic similarity, semantic personalization, and machine access to semantic information at a semantic portal. As a case study we refer to the AIFB web site — a place that is increasingly driven by Semantic Web technologies.

Scalable and Reliable Semantic Portals (SEAL) in Practice
We present a scalable and reliable framework for Semantic Portals which is an extension of our existing SEAL approach. We illustrate the instantiation of our framework by the real-world example of a heterogeneous and distributed infrastructure of Semantic Portals, viz. the portal of our institute AIFB, the OntoWeb.org portals and the KM-Vision.org portal. The approach relies on the application ...

متن کاملManaging User Focused Access to Distributed Knowledge
Community web sites exhibit the property that multiple content providers exist. Of course, any portal is only as useful as the quality and amount of its content. Developing original content is time consuming and expensive. To offset the cost, we present a novel framework, viz. SEAL (SEmantic portAL), that builds on Semantic Web standards. We illustrate our approach with examples from the OntoWe...

specific information on the World Wide Web, thus helping their users find relevant, domain-specific information. The construction of intelligent access and the contribution of information to knowledge portals, however, remained an ad hoc task, requiring extensive manual editing and maintenance by the knowledge portal providers. To diminish these efforts, we use ontologies as a conceptual backbo...
متن کاملSEAL-II - The Soft Spot between Richly Structured and Unstructured Knowledge
Recently, the idea of semantic portals on the Web or on the intranet has gained popularity. Their key concern is to allow a community of users to present and share knowledge in a particular (set of) domain(s) via semantic methods. Thus, semantic portals aim at creating high-quality access — in contrast to methods like information retrieval or document clustering that do not exploit any semantic...
